Study Piece Nov 2006 from "Reading Through the Body" - Haptic - Works.
Materials: Nails
"We often hear the term 'visual art' which assumes that the viewer experiences art predominantly through their eyes. This unit involves what is known as 'haptic function' in art, which refers to a kind of seeing other than purely optical. In other words, the focus is on art that can be read through our bodies by senses other than, or as well as sight.
Artists associated with haptic function are Francis Bacon, Joseph Beuys, Carravagio, Ed Ruscha, Rembrandt, Man Ray, Eva Hesse, Richard Serra, Anish Kapoor amongst others."
SPACE - The aim of our Term 2 course (as well as a continuation from Term 1's 'relationship between the artist and their materials) was "the investigation of the non-mimetic aspects of the space that the art work and the viewer share. The focus travels from the surface of the art work, into the 'marked' site, and to the viewer".
